Is Avast Slowing Down My Computer
Hey guys, what's going on with Avast Free I'm getting calls from people using XP sp3, Vista, and Win 7 telling me that Chrome, Firefox, and the new fastest browser MXNitro is taking forever to load after the icon is clicked. One switched to Ad-Aware Free and doesn't get the slowdown, another went to Avira Free and all is running well. Any thoughts on this, I'm running Panda Free on one and BitdefenderFree on another because I was noticing a slowdown too but it slowed my whole system not just my browser. Hi Jim/Claw,For my 20 cents worth I have read on several tech sites that Avira, along with others, are loading more 'junk' with their programmes, and I know how wary you are of junk, but junk is now being squeezed through pin-holes in a large majority of 'free'ware' programmes. One of the sites has a direct computer care service and report instances of 'junkware', although the fingers of fatal downloads don't wait for a 'go' signal from the eyes of clients which may see, but are blinded by the large array of download buttons looking like a penny arcade.Regards,Jonno. Hey guys, I discovered that the Avast slowdown is associated with latest version only. I downloaded and installed Avast 5 and then updated the engine and definitions and it works great, then I proceeded to do the same with the remaining versions and all was good until the very last few Avast product updates then the slowdown started again.

It seems as if it slows down with this user-interface and it only slows down Google Chrome, none of the other browsers. Avira, Ad-Aware, AVG, none of them are affecting Chrome except the latest version of Avast. Just thought this may interest any others that have had this issue. Hey Claw - I installed Bitdefender free on on old Dell computer recently, just because the machine is low on specs and Bitdefender is reputed to be the lightest free AV of all. After a little while (maybe 29 days or so), it stopped working and told me I was required to create an account in order for it to start working again. Not impressed!!Avast has been heading the same way: must connect through an account, must re-register every 12 months.

Acid pro 7 course. I'm just tired of all this nonsense. What's wrong with an AV that just installs and does the job!I've found Avira is the nearest thing to that simple requirement, no creating accounts, no need to connect to anything 'Avira', just install and that's it.I recommended Avast for years but I am now a die hard Avira man.
